Cats primarily communicate through body language and behavior. By learning to read your cat’s signals, you can better meet its needs and ensure its well-being.

Here are some of the most common signals you should know:

When the Cat is Happy

A happy cat has a relaxed posture, half-closed eyes, and a gently swaying tail. It may purr softly, rub against you, or knead with its paws.

If the tail is raised upward with a slight bend at the end, it’s a sign of great satisfaction.

When the Cat is Stressed or Afraid

A stressed or frightened cat pulls its ears back, arches its back, and raises its fur. It may also swing its tail violently, hiss, or try to hide.

If your cat seems very vigilant and avoids eye contact, it likely feels unsafe.

      When the Cat is Sick

Signs of illness in cats can be hard to detect. A cat that suddenly withdraws, eats less, or sleeps more than usual may be ill.

Other warning signs can include excessive grooming, labored breathing, or changes in stool patterns.

If your cat’s behavior changes significantly, you should contact a veterinarian.

        When the Cat is Understimulated

An understimulated cat may develop destructive behavior, such as scratching furniture or chewing on things.

It can also become very attention-seeking or meow constantly to make contact.

Regular play and interactive toys help stimulate the cat’s brain.

          When the Cat is Secure

A relaxed cat often lies stretched out, purrs, or slowly blinks at you. When a cat rolls over on its back and shows its belly, it feels completely safe in its home.

By learning to recognize your cat’s signals, you can better understand its needs and create a harmonious everyday life together.
