Thrift Shop Discovery Leads to Viral Tribute for Late Dog and Owner
What started as a casual trip to a secondhand store in New York turned into an emotional experience for photographer Lindsay Lazare.
While browsing the art section, she stumbled upon several framed photos of the same Golden Retriever, captured in moments of joy and deep connection with her owner.
A dog’s memory continues to inspire kindness
Lazare was moved by the obvious love behind each image. She purchased all 20 photos and shared a video on Instagram, expressing how touched she was by this unexpected discovery.
The post quickly gained traction, going viral with over 2 million views.
Shortly after Lazare’s video circulated online, a local veterinary clinic reached out with the story behind the photographs.
The dog’s name was Emily, a Golden Retriever who had passed away shortly before her owner, Joseph.
According to Joseph’s obituary, instead of flowers, he requested donations be made to a New York-based animal rescue organization.

Deeply affected by the story, Lazare shared the donation request on her Instagram.
Within a short time, the campaign had raised nearly $8,700 (converted from 8,000 euros).
The outpouring of support didn’t stop there.
In response to the overwhelming interest, Lazare mailed out the original 20 photographs and digitized them for public download.
Emily’s memory now lives on not only in the hearts of those who knew her, but through a community of strangers touched by her story and her photos.
