Woman Jumps Out of Bed After Feeling a Snake on Her Leg
For most people, the idea of something crawling on you while you sleep is pure nightmare fuel.
But for Ashley Rhodes of Bribie Island, Australia, that nightmare became very real last Friday night when she was jolted awake by something slithering across her leg in bed.
What she felt next made her jump out of bed in terror—a snake’s tail. And not just any snake. It was a rhinoceros (or diamond) python.
The Snake Wasn’t the Only One Scared
Rhodes immediately fled the bedroom with her two dogs and called the Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers for help. Snake catcher Summer Woolston told Yahoo News Australia, “She was definitely pretty scared… anyone would be if they were woken up in the dark by a snake.”
Even though Rhodes isn’t new to reptiles, she’s owned snakes in the past, the experience of being surprised by one in bed left her shaken.
But it turns out the snake was just as startled. A photo shared by the snake catchers shows the python trying to escape through a hole in the wall behind the bed, where an old electrical outlet used to be.

The Python’s Return Shocks Again
Unfortunately, by the time help arrived, the snake had slithered out of reach and disappeared into the wall. Rhodes sealed up the hole, hoping that would be the end of it.
It wasn’t.
The very next night, the python returned.
This time, another snake catcher was able to capture the reptile and safely relocate it to the nearby bush, hopefully putting an end to Rhodes’ sleepless nights.
Even seasoned snake lovers can agree: waking up next to a python isn’t the kind of bedtime story anyone wants to star in.
