A German Shepherd who fled war-torn Ukraine in search of safety was found clinging to life in a lay-by in Kent after a brutal attack.

The dog, named Bandit, had suffered a fractured skull after being struck with a shovel and left for dead.

A Fight for Survival

Bandit was discovered last week on Ridham Dock Road near Sittingbourne, curled up and barely conscious.

His injuries were so severe that part of his brain was exposed.

The three-year-old dog had a microchip issued in Ukraine in 2022, suggesting that he may have been brought to the UK by someone fleeing the war.

After being rushed to the vet, Bandit underwent emergency surgery. Despite the severity of his injuries, the veterinary team expects him to make a full recovery.

However, the critical first few days following surgery were crucial, as there was a risk of internal bleeding.

A Second Chance at Life

Animal charity Angels 4 Dogs has taken Bandit under its care and is now looking for a loving home for him. Yasmine Moss, who runs the charity, shared her heartbreak over Bandit’s ordeal.

“He was driven to a remote area in Kent and smashed in the head with what the vet thinks was a shovel, in the hopes that he would die,” she said. “When he was found, he was curled up and just about clinging to life.”

Despite his horrific trauma, Bandit has shown resilience and spirit. “He’s been in good spirits, wagging his tail and eating well,” Moss added.

Hope for Justice

The attack on Bandit has sparked outrage among animal lovers, with calls for an investigation into the abuse he endured.

Authorities are working to determine how he arrived in the UK and who was responsible for his suffering.

Moss believes Bandit was “always meant to be found” and that his rescue is proof that kindness still exists.

“I cannot imagine his love and trust being abused so callously and violently,” she said. “He deserves to know that this world isn’t just full of cruelty.”

As Bandit continues to recover, Angels 4 Dogs is committed to ensuring he finds a forever home where he will be safe, loved, and never harmed again.
